FNO

FNO was a blast! I attended the ShopGirl Style Lounge at the Galleria last night and had a great time. I was dolled up with some lashes from the Edward Sanchez Vanity Lounge while enjoying a delicious cupcake by Sweetbatter. I mingled, sipped on wine, danced a little and was able to get a photo with the amazing girls on stilts. I thought they were just for our lounge, but no, I saw them wandering around all parts of the Galleria. Amazing!! I then popped over to J.Crew for a little guilty pleasure shopping and some mini red velvet cupcakes, yum! I ended my night with another purchase from Nordstrom, but that will be a later post. I had such a blast and I can't wait for next year's FNO!

I love when I meet amazing people through this blog! I have "met" the amazing blogger of Savvy Spice, Dale, when she became a reader of my blog. She's a rockin stylist which is proof from her working on Bravo's new show Silicone Valley. Awesome job girl! Definitely check out her blog for all of her amazing styling tips. My favorite is her post on Chubbies shorts here. First off how awesomely frat-tastic (ya, I just made up a word) are these shorts and I love how she effortlessly pulls of this menswear item. Okay I got a little off topic here...through Dale her neighbor, Wallee, found my blog. He has a company The City Supply Co which has greats tees that make me miss the city so much! And by the city I mean San Francisco. I used to live in Davis, CA for college and did not frequent the city as much as I should only being an hour away. But now that I'm in Texas I think about it way too much, the parks, the shopping, the food...ahh I'm starting to daydream....

Wallee (cutest CEO, check out his post here) sent me over this tee. I wanted to play around with the sportswear trend so I decided to jazz it up a bit. I wore this to see the movie To Rome with Love. Cute movie, typical Woody Allen humor...but I probably could have waited for it to come out on DVD. Next movie on my list is The Bourne Legacy. Mostly because it looks like an awesome action movie and I really want to know how good this can be without Matt Damon. I mean can you really have a Bourne movie without him?

Father's Day

I hope everyone had a great Father's Day spent with their fathers or father figures. Although I wasn't able to spend it with my dad who lives in Orange County I was able to celebrate with my uncles. It was their first father's day with Baby E. We took a day trip out to lake Livingston and it was beautiful! The lake is huge and it definitely has us all dreaming of a house on the lake one day.

Cravings

My friend Minhthy and I were craving a little outdoor adventure the other day and since the weather has been so nice we couldn't resist a trip to Empire Cafe. We enjoyed a nice lunch out on their patio and were able to catch up on some much needed girl time. After lunch we decided to head over to Crave cupcakes, which in my opinion is the best cupcake place in Houston. I enjoyed their limited run pistachio and Minhthy had their mint chocolate chip cupcake. I think my favorite so far has been their dark chocolate, or maybe the red velvet, or there's even the German chocolate....I guess I'm still debating over which one takes the lead.

 After our cupcakes we decided the day was not over. We went over to Minhthy's apartment to watch bad Netflix movies. If any of you out there have Netflix watch instantly then you know there are some good movies on their list, but there are a lot of one and two star rated movies that you can't help but watch and continue to watch. You know it's a horrible story line or bad acting or maybe both, but you get sucked into the story and have to watch until the end to know what happens. I have been on a bad movie watching binge lately racking up such titles as Jennifer's Body (sorry all you Meghan Fox lovers out there), the People vs. Larry Flint, The Cheetah Girls (thank you Baby E), and Sleeping Beauty (definitely not the Disney version). Have any of you seen any good or bad movies lately?

My friend Kim invited me to a photography exhibit in the Village that her friend was apart of. It was a really interesting exhibit, his photos were in a trailer while some of the others were inside. There were a lot of really interesting pictures. Some were different shots of people's body parts. Although how I typed this comes off a lot more morbid than it really was, it was cool seeing peoples feet and arms intertwined. There were also photos like the cake photo at the bottom of the page with graduated cylinders indicating what goes into the slice of cake. Or the photo of someone's head with a dotted line across the top. The thought that I had just watched Hannibal before going out that night made me believe they were going to eat her brains! However...that's just my thought on that one. My favorite photo in the trailer was one of a staircase, the first shot here. It took your eyes both up the stairs and down, I almost didn't know where to look!

Who Spiked the Punch?

Here's a few quick pictures of what I wore out over the weekend. No one really spiked the punch I just thought it was a fitting title with my spiked sweatshirt.

DIY: Studded Clutch

Tada! This DIY project is a Christmas gift for my best friend Amanda that I started a while back and just now finished (I got sidetracked a bit with other projects along the way). I didn't realize how time consuming this project would be until I started it, but I really love the end result so it was worth the time it took.

I started with a DIY clutch that you might remember here. I had an extra zipper and fabric so I used this to create a smaller bag. You could also use an old clutch that you have lying around or find a cheap one at a store.

Note: I used the Stylescrapbook DIY for the clutch

Amanda told me that she liked a certain studded purse and I thought to myself, I can make that! I stored that thought away  for a Christmas gift idea and that's how this project was born.

I went to studsandspikes.com to order the studs I needed for the project. I found this website when I did my spiked sweatshirt here.

I initially ordered 2 bags of 100 count thinking that would be enough but had to halt the project when I ran out. Overall I used almost 300 studs! Lesson learned: order more than you think you're going to use.

I started by pressing the studs into the fabric of the clutch. This proved to be difficult since the fabric was thick and, word to the wise, will make your thumbs sore after a while. I pressed each stud into the fabric and bent the clasps inward to hold the stud in place on the clutch.

Repeat this step in the desired pattern. I wanted the whole clutch to be covered in studs so I stuck with straight lines all the way across, but you could also try a diagonal pattern or even a smaller pattern that doesn't cover the whole bag.

Tweed and Leather

I bought these leather pants back in California right before I moved to Texas. When I called my uncle to ask him when it gets cold so I could wear them he said "uh, maybe for a week or two in February?" I was devastated! When was I going to be able to rock my awesome purchase (on sale for $60 from BCBG)?

However, the other week I was able to bust these babies out from the back of my closet and I like the end result. I didn't want to be too edgy with the leather so I added a classic fitted tweed blazer to give it more of a polished look.
